| I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old: | Höre, mein Volk, meine Unterweisung, neiget eure Ohren zu der Rede meines Mundes! | eruditionis Asaph ausculta populus meus legem meam inclinate aurem vestram ad verba oris mei |
| Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. | Ich will meinen Mund auftun zu einem Spruch und Geschichten verkünden aus alter Zeit. | (77:2) aperiam in parabula os meum loquar enigmata antiqua |
| We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. | Was wir gehört haben und wissen und unsre Väter uns erzählt haben, | (77:3) quae audivimus et cognovimus et patres nostri narraverunt nobis |
| For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: | das wollen wir nicht verschweigen ihren Kindern; wir verkündigen dem kommenden Geschlecht den Ruhm des HERRN und seine Macht und seine Wunder, die er getan hat. | (77:4) non sunt abscondita a filiis eorum a generatione sequenti narrante laudes Domini et potentiam eius et mirabilia eius quae fecit |
| That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: | Er richtete ein Zeugnis auf in Jakob und gab ein Gesetz in Israel und gebot unsern Vätern, es ihre Kinder zu lehren, | (77:5) statuit contestationem Iacob et legem posuit in Israhel quae mandavit patribus nostris ut docerent filios suos |
| That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments: | damit es die Nachkommen lernten, die Kinder, die noch geboren würden; die sollten aufstehen und es auch ihren Kindern verkündigen, | (77:6) ut cognosceret generatio subsequens filii nascituri surgent et narrabunt filiis suis |
| And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God. | daß sie setzten auf Gott ihre Hoffnung und nicht vergäßen die Taten Gottes, sondern seine Gebote hielten | (77:7) ut ponant in Deo spem suam et non obliviscantur cogitationum eius et mandata eius custodiant |
| The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. | und nicht würden wie ihre Väter, ein abtrünniges und ungehorsames Geschlecht, dessen Herz nicht fest war und dessen Geist sich nicht treu an Gott hielt, | (77:8) ut non sint sicut patres eorum generatio declinans et provocans generatio quae non praeparavit cor suum et non credidit Deo spiritus eius |
| They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law; | wie die Söhne Ephraims, die den Bogen führten, abfielen zur Zeit des Streits; | (77:9) filii Efraim intendentes et mittentes arcum terga verterunt in die belli |
| And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them. | sie hielten den Bund Gottes nicht und wollten nicht in seinem Gesetz wandeln | (77:10) non custodierunt pactum Dei sui et in lege eius noluerunt ingredi |
| Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt , in the field of Zoan. | und vergaßen seine Taten und seine Wunder, die er ihnen erwiesen hatte. | (77:11) et obliti sunt commutationum eius et mirabilium eius quae ostendit eis |
| He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap. | Vor ihren Vätern tat er Wunder in Ägyptenland, im Gefilde von Zoan. | (77:12) coram patribus eorum fecit mirabilia in terra Aegypto in regione Taneos |
| In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire. | Er zerteilte das Meer und ließ sie hindurchziehen und stellte das Wasser fest wie eine Mauer. | (77:13) divisit mare et transduxit eos et stare fecit aquas quasi acervum |
| He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths. | Er leitete sie am Tage mit einer Wolke und die ganze Nacht mit einem hellen Feuer. | (77:14) et duxit eos in nube per diem et tota nocte in lumine ignis |
| He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers. | Er spaltete die Felsen in der Wüste und tränkte sie mit Wasser in Fülle; | (77:15) scidit petram in deserto et potum dedit quasi de abyssis magnis |
| And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness. | er ließ Bäche aus den Felsen kommen, daß sie hinabflossen wie Wasserströme. | (77:16) et eduxit rivos de petra et elicuit quasi flumina aquas |
| And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust. | Dennoch sündigten sie weiter wider ihn und empörten sich in der Wüste gegen den Höchsten; | (77:17) et addiderunt ultra peccare ei ut provocarent Excelsum in invio |
| Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? | sie versuchten Gott in ihrem Herzen, als sie Speise forderten für ihr Gelüste, | (77:18) et temptaverunt Deum in cordibus suis petentes cibum animae suae |
| Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? | und redeten wider Gott und sprachen: Kann Gott wohl einen Tisch bereiten in der Wüste? | (77:19) et loquentes contra Deum dicebant numquid poterit Deus ponere mensam in solitudine |
| Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel; | Siehe, er hat wohl den Felsen geschlagen, daß Wasser strömten und Bäche sich ergossen; kann er aber auch Brot geben und seinem Volk Fleisch verschaffen? | (77:20) ecce percussit petram et fluxerunt aquae et torrentes inundaverunt numquid et panem poterit dare aut praeparare carnem populo suo |
| Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation: | Da der HERR das hörte, entbrannte er im Grimm, und Feuer brach aus in Jakob, und Zorn kam über Israel, | (77:21) ideo audivit Dominus et non distulit et ignis accensus est in Iacob et furor ascendit in Israhel |
| Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, | weil sie nicht glaubten an Gott und nicht hofften auf seine Hilfe. | (77:22) quia non crediderunt Deo nec habuerunt fiduciam in salutari eius |
| And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. | Und er gebot den Wolken droben und tat auf die Türen des Himmels | (77:23) et praecepit nubibus desuper et portas caeli aperuit |
| Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full. | und ließ Manna auf sie regnen zur Speise und gab ihnen Himmelsbrot. | (77:24) et pluit super eos man ut comederent et triticum caeli dedit eis |
| He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind. | Brot der Engel aßen sie alle, er sandte ihnen Speise in Fülle. | (77:25) panem fortium comedit vir cibaria misit eis in saturitatem |
| He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: | Er ließ wehen den Ostwind unter dem Himmel und erregte durch seine Stärke den Südwind | (77:26) abstulit eurum de caelo et induxit in fortitudine sua africum |
| And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations. | und ließ Fleisch auf sie regnen wie Staub und Vögel wie Sand am Meer; | (77:27) et pluit super eos quasi pulverem carnes et quasi harenam maris volatilia pinnata |
| So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire; | mitten in das Lager fielen sie ein, rings um seine Wohnung her. | (77:28) et ceciderunt in medio castrorum eius in circuitu tabernaculorum eius |
| They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths, | Da aßen sie und wurden sehr satt; und was sie verlangten, gewährte er ihnen. | (77:29) et comederunt et saturati sunt nimis et desiderium eorum adtulit eis |
| The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel. | Sie hatten ihr Verlangen noch nicht gestillt, ihre Speise war noch in ihrem Munde, | (77:30) non indiguerunt de cupiditate sua cum adhuc cibus esset in ore eorum |
| For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works. | da kam der Zorn Gottes über sie und brachte ihre Vornehmsten um und schlug die Besten in Israel nieder. | (77:31) furor ergo Dei ascendit super eos et occidit pingues eorum et electos Israhel incurvavit |
| Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble. | Zu dem allen sündigten sie noch mehr und glaubten nicht an seine Wunder. | (77:32) in omnibus his peccaverunt ultra et non crediderunt mirabilibus eius |
| When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God. | Darum ließ er ihre Tage dahinschwinden ins Nichts und ihre Jahre in Schrecken. | (77:33) et consumpsit in vanitate dies eorum et annos eorum velociter |
| And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer. | Wenn er den Tod unter sie brachte, suchten sie Gott und fragten wieder nach ihm | (77:34) si occidebat eos tunc requirebant eum et convertebantur et diluculo consurgebant ad Deum |
| Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues. | und dachten daran, daß Gott ihr Hort ist und Gott, der Höchste, ihr Erlöser. | (77:35) et recordabantur quia Deus fortitudo eorum et Deus excelsus redemptor eorum |
| For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant. | Doch betrogen sie ihn mit ihrem Munde und belogen ihn mit ihrer Zunge. | (77:36) et lactaverunt eum in ore suo et lingua sua mentiti sunt ei |
| But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath. | Ihr Herz hing nicht fest an ihm, und sie hielten nicht treu an seinem Bunde. | (77:37) cor autem eorum non erat firmum cum eo nec permanserunt in pacto eius |
| For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again. | Er aber war barmherzig und vergab die Schuld und vertilgte sie nicht und wandte oft seinen Zorn ab und ließ nicht seinen ganzen Grimm an ihnen aus. | (77:38) ipse vero misericors propitiabitur iniquitati et non disperdet multumque avertit iram suam et non suscitavit totum furorem suum |
| How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! | Denn er dachte daran, daß sie Fleisch sind, ein Hauch, der dahinfährt und nicht wiederkommt. | (77:39) sed recordatus est quia caro essent spiritus vadens et non revertens |
| Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. | Wie oft trotzten sie ihm in der Wüste und betrübten ihn in der Einöde! | (77:40) quotiens provocaverunt eum in deserto adflixerunt eum in solitudine |
| They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy. | Sie versuchten Gott immer wieder und kränkten den Heiligen Israels. | (77:41) et conversi sunt et temptaverunt Deum et Sanctum Israhel concitaverunt |
| How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan: | Sie dachten nicht an die Taten seiner Hand, an den Tag, als er sie erlöste von den Feinden, | (77:42) non sunt recordati manus eius diei qua redemit eos a tribulante |
| And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink. | wie er seine Zeichen in Ägypten getan hatte und seine Wunder im Lande Zoan; | (77:43) qui fecit in Aegypto signa sua et ostenta sua in regione Taneos |
| He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them. | als er ihre Ströme in Blut verwandelte, daß sie aus ihren Flüssen nicht trinken konnten; | (77:44) qui convertit in sanguine fluvios eorum et rivos eorum ut non biberent |
| He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust. | als er Ungeziefer unter sie schickte, das sie fraß, und Frösche, die ihnen Verderben brachten, | (77:45) qui inmisit eis genus omne muscarum ut comederent eos et ranas ut disperderent eos |
| He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost. | und ihr Gewächs den Raupen gab und ihre Saat den Heuschrecken; | (77:46) qui dedit brucho germen eorum et laborem eorum lucustae |
| He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts. | als er ihre Weinstöcke mit Hagel schlug und ihre Maulbeerbäume mit Schloßen; | (77:47) qui occidit in grandine vineas eorum et sycomoros eorum in frigore |
| He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them. | als er ihr Vieh preisgab dem Hagel und ihre Herden dem Wetterstrahl; | (77:48) qui tradidit grandini pascua eorum et iumenta eorum volucribus |
| He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence; | als er die Glut seines Zornes unter sie sandte, Grimm und Wut und Drangsal, eine Schar Verderben bringender Engel; | (77:49) qui misit in eos iram furoris sui indignationem et comminationem et angustiam inmissionem angelorum malorum |
| And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham: | als er seinem Zorn freien Lauf ließ und ihre Seele vor dem Tode nicht bewahrte und ihr Leben preisgab der Pest; | (77:50) munivit semitam furori suo non pepercit morti animae eorum et animantia eorum pesti tradidit |
| But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock. | als er alle Erstgeburt in Ägypten schlug, die Erstlinge ihrer Kraft in den Zelten Hams. | (77:51) et percussit omne primogenitum in Aegypto principium partus in tabernaculis Cham |
| And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies. | Er ließ sein Volk ausziehen wie Schafe und führte sie wie eine Herde in der Wüste; | (77:52) et tulit veluti oves populum suum et minavit eos sicut gregem in deserto |
| And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased. | und er leitete sie sicher, daß sie sich nicht fürchteten; aber ihre Feinde bedeckte das Meer. | (77:53) et duxit eos cum fiducia et absque timore inimicos autem eorum operuit mare |
| He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents. | Er brachte sie zu seinem heiligen Lande, zu diesem Berge, den seine Rechte erworben hat, | (77:54) et adduxit eos ad terminum sanctificatum suum montem istum quem possedit dextera eius et eiecit a facie eorum gentes et possidere eos fecit in funiculo hereditatem |
| Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies: | und vertrieb vor ihnen her die Völker und verteilte ihr Land als Erbe und ließ in ihren Zelten die Stämme Israels wohnen. | (77:55) et conlocavit in tabernaculis eorum tribus Israhel |
| But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow. | Aber sie versuchten Gott und trotzten dem Höchsten und hielten seine Gebote nicht; | (77:56) et temptaverunt et provocaverunt Deum excelsum et testimonia eius non custodierunt |
| For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images. | sie wichen zurück und waren treulos wie ihre Väter und versagten wie ein schlaffer Bogen; | (77:57) et aversi sunt et praevaricati sunt ut patres eorum incurvati sunt quasi arcus inutilis |
| When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel: | sie erzürnten ihn mit ihren Höhen und reizten ihn zum Zorn mit ihren Götzen. | (77:58) et provocaverunt eum in excelsis suis et in sculptilibus suis ad aemulandum concitaverunt |
| So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men; | Als das Gott hörte, entbrannte sein Grimm, und er verwarf Israel so sehr, | (77:59) audivit Deus et non distulit et proiecit vehementer Israhel |
| And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand. | daß er seine Wohnung in Silo dahingab, das Zelt, in dem er unter Menschen wohnte; | (77:60) et reliquit tabernaculum Selo tentorium quod conlocavit inter homines |
| He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance. | er gab seine Macht in Gefangenschaft und seine Herrlichkeit in die Hand des Feindes; | (77:61) tradidit in captivitatem gloriam suam et decorem suum in manu hostis |
| The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage. | er übergab sein Volk dem Schwert und ergrimmte über sein Erbe. | (77:62) et conclusit in gladio populum suum et in hereditate sua non distulit |
| Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation. | Ihre junge Mannschaft fraß das Feuer, und ihre Jungfrauen mußten ungefreit bleiben. | (77:63) iuvenes eius devoravit ignis et virgines eius nemo luxit |
| Then the LORD awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine. | Ihre Priester fielen durchs Schwert, und die Witwen konnten die Toten nicht beweinen. | (77:64) sacerdotes eius gladio ceciderunt et viduae eius non sunt fletae |
| And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach. | Da erwachte der Herr wie ein Schlafender, wie ein Starker, der beim Wein fröhlich war, | (77:65) et evigilavit quasi dormiens Dominus quasi fortis post crapulam vini |
| Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim: | und schlug seine Feinde hinten und hängte ihnen ewige Schande an. | (77:66) et percussit hostes suos retrorsum obprobrium sempiternum dedit eos |
| But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved. | Er verwarf das Zelt Josephs und erwählte nicht den Stamm Ephraim, | (77:67) et proiecit tabernaculum Ioseph et tribum Efraim non elegit |
| And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever. | sondern erwählte den Stamm Juda, den Berg Zion, den er liebhat. | (77:68) sed elegit tribum Iuda montem Sion quem dilexit |
| He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds: | Er baute sein Heiligtum wie Himmelshöhen, wie die Erde, die er gegründet hat für immer, | (77:69) et aedificavit in similitudinem monoceroton sanctuarium suum quasi terram fundavit illud in saeculum |
| From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. | und erwählte seinen Knecht David und nahm ihn von den Schafhürden; | (77:70) et elegit David servum suum et tulit eum de gregibus ovium sequentem fetas adduxit eum |
| So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands. | von den säugenden Schafen holte er ihn, daß er sein Volk Jakob weide und sein Erbe Israel. | (77:71) ut pasceret Iacob populum eius et Israhel hereditatem eius |
| Und er weidete sie mit aller Treue und leitete sie mit kluger Hand. | (77:72) qui pavit eos in simplicitate cordis sui et in prudentia manuum suarum dux eorum fuit |
